It’s a legendary combo for any cannabis enthusiast: cannabis and coffee. A good old wake and bake, just to take that edge off. Ease into that tense day ahead.
But, what is in the details of getting that double high, those psychoactive effects and caffeinated energy combo? Well, as with anything in the marijuana world the research is still fresh.
Let’s get into the SCIENCE shall we!
Cannabis, Coffee, And Monkeys…
A study conducted by the Journal of Neuroscience was done to determine the effects of weed and coffee when ingested together.
The doctors conducting the study used squirrel monkeys…
No, this isn’t a joke…
Anyway! In the study, the monkeys were given caffeine and could give themselves a dose of THC by pulling a lever.
The caffeine in coffee blocks neurotransmitter receptors for the chemical adenosine, which when deactivated causes humans to become more alert.
Thus the crashing feeling after coming down from a coffee high.
The study found that small amounts of coffee blocked the receptors, which resulted in monkeys using less THC. BUT, when the monkeys had loads of caffeine the primates increased their THC intake.
So, those who have a strong cup of coffee in the morning might be self triggering themselves to take more in cannabis.
Now that you know, maybe trade in that strong espresso for a Ricoffy. Let’s talk about what strain of cannabis you should wake and bake with!
Weed Strains Matter With Coffee
Sativa: is an energetic high.
Indica: is a relaxed high (might cause couch lock).
As a rule of thumb, if you are waking and baking make sure that you’re enjoying a Sativa dominate strain.
Now, let’s get down to how you can really make sure you get the most from your morning routine.
How To Love Your Cannabis And Coffee
Now that we’ve directed you to the facts and strains you should be using, make sure that you find this balance in tiny steps.
No one wants to over-medicate, especially with a full day ahead.
We’d suggest sipping on espresso slowing with gradual intakes of cannabis, maybe use the microdosing DaVinci MIQRO Vaporiser to ensure regulated intakes.
Finding the perfect mixture varies widely from person to person.
Our last tip is to take it slowly, find that morning routine that works for you (go through those preparation routines), and make sure that you get into your day productively.
