While it may seem like CBD oils and sprays are targeted squarely at the millennial demographic, you know the ones who need organic coffee, it’s actually the Boomers who are pretty keen on it too.
Like, why wouldn’t they be? They hit their 20s and 30s in the 1960s and 1970s.
So, yes, most seniors will know first-hand what cannabis is all about. But it’s only now we’re really seeing all the amazing benefits of CBD thanks to scientific research, as well as the legalisation of cannabis around the world (come on South Africa let’s make it fully legal already).
If they are a part of the minority, and not totally sold on the health benefits of CBD, here are some major selling factors.
CBD can help with pain management
It should go without saying, by the time you’re ready for retirement, you’ll have some sort of pain medication in your daily pillbox.
CBD has been proven to help alleviate pain and inflammation. A side effect of switching from opioid-based pain relief medication to CBD is that your dependency on these highly addictive drugs is minimised.
So, if your gramps is chugging back on those pain meds maybe a little CBD can help.
CBD can help bones
Just like the joints in your body, at an elderly age your bones start to lose vital minerals. This means they become frail and brittle and small stumbles around the home can have large issues.
So, super conveniently, CBD helps with inflammation and pain and also promotes cell repair! According to a study, CBD can help strengthen the bones, and may even promote the healing process in the case of a fracture.
CBD can help sleep
In the modern world, honestly, who doesn’t have sleeping issues? And once you’ve reached your golden years, your sleeping patterns have shifted quite substantially.
Aspects that will negatively affect your sleep are: stress, anxiety, restlessness, and general imbalances in the body – like too much alcohol.
These issues can be treated with CBD as it is known to calm the user down. So, get your little Boomer relaxing.
CBD can help the heart
Cardiac diseases are a big killer in the senior demographic. The main culprit for these issues is high blood pressure, which is often caused by stress.
By simply being calmer, you reduce the chances of a sudden cardiac event. Also, the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD can help combat high blood pressure.
CBD can help the brain
An active mind is a healthy one. CBD can interact with receptors in the brain, which some experts believe could help treat diseases like Alzheimer’s.
We’re not going to harp on about this benefit as the research is still very new. But it is exciting.
CBD can improve mood
This is more of a combination of being healthier and in less pain. After all, everyone is moody when they’re in pain, or have had a lack of sleep.
So, CBD should also help improve your grumpy gramps mood.
